Habiganj, Sept 20 (V7N) — The government is taking various initiatives to improve the living standards and working conditions of tea workers, said Syed Md. Faisal, a member of parliament from Habiganj-4 (Madhabpur-Chunarughat).
He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon while addressing a raincoat distribution programme for tea workers at Chandpur Tea Garden in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj.
Faisal said tea workers are an important part of the country's economy and tea industry and continue to contribute significantly despite working in difficult weather conditions.
“The government is implementing various people-oriented programmes to provide necessary support to tea workers,” he said, adding that the distribution of essential supplies and assistance would continue as part of efforts to improve their living standards.
He also said the government was working to address various economic and infrastructure-related challenges and had undertaken initiatives aimed at socioeconomic development and public welfare.
The programme was chaired by Chunarughat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Galib Chowdhury. Former upazila chairman Syed Liakat Hasan, former mayor Nazim Uddin Shamsu, Chunarughat Upazila BNP General Secretary Advocate Mir Siraj, government officials and tea workers' leaders were present.
Earlier in the morning, Faisal took part in a cleanliness campaign in Chunarughat as part of efforts to prevent dengue.
During the campaign, he urged residents to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and prevent stagnant water from accumulating to help control the spread of dengue.
