TEKNAF, Sept 15 (V7N) — Police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have conducted a major anti-human trafficking operation in Teknaf, dismantling nearly 20 alleged hideouts used by human traffickers and rescuing a 16-year-old boy who had allegedly been abducted for trafficking.
Two suspected human traffickers were also arrested during the operation.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed the information on Monday morning.
According to police, the teenager, identified as Shahriyar Noman Naim, 16, was allegedly abducted from Dulahazara Union in Chakaria on Saturday with the intention of trafficking him. He was subsequently taken to the Razar Chhara area of Teknaf and held at an alleged human traffickers’ hideout.
Acting on information, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Saikat Majumder conducted an operation in the Razar Chhara area and rescued the boy.
During the operation, police arrested two alleged traffickers, identified as Touhidul Alam, 22, and Abu Sadeq, 25, at the scene.
OC Saiful Islam said human traffickers had once again become active in the area and that joint operations were being intensified to curb the crime.
“We were able to arrest two alleged traffickers during the joint operation and rescue an abducted teenager,” he said.
He added that intelligence surveillance and operations would be further strengthened in border and coastal areas to prevent human trafficking.
