Pabna, Mar 23 (V7N) – Local residents in the Dogachi area of Pabna have destroyed and set fire to a so-called shrine, accusing the fake pir of engaging in immoral activities and insulting religious sentiments. The incident occurred at 11 AM on Saturday, March 22, in the Kayemkola village of Dogachi Union.
Sohale Rana, a member of Dogachi Union Parishad, stated that Delwar Hossain, also known as Saeed, had been claiming to be a pir for several years. He built a shrine at his home where allegations of drug use and immoral activities were reported. Delwar Hossain reportedly performed un-Islamic acts, including leading his followers into shirk (polytheism) and making women vulnerable to inappropriate advances. He continued these actions despite warnings from locals.
Tensions escalated after a video of Delwar Hossain's illicit activities spread on social media, sparking public outrage. Although the police had intervened and warned him, the pir continued his inappropriate actions. Four days ago, the matter was reported to the local police, who cautioned him. However, Delwar Hossain resumed his actions soon after.
On Saturday morning, local residents organized a human chain in protest, which led to a confrontation with some of the pir's followers. Later, around 11 AM, the enraged residents gathered and destroyed the so-called shrine and set it on fire. However, before the attack, Delwar Hossain had fled the area.
Abdus Salam, Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, confirmed that the police had visited the scene. However, no formal complaint had been filed. According to intelligence reports and statements from locals, Delwar Hossain was a fraudulent pir who had made a grave inside his house, claiming that he would be buried there after his death. He reportedly used his followers' mental vulnerabilities for personal gain and carried out immoral and un-Islamic acts. Despite numerous warnings, Delwar Hossain ignored local and police advice and continued his behavior, prompting the villagers to destroy his shrine.
As Delwar Hossain remains on the run, no statement has been obtained from him regarding the allegations.
