Mongla, Mar 17 (V7N) – The Mongla Coast Guard has seized 205 kilograms of deer meat and arrested a poacher in three separate operations along the Sundarbans coast. The operations, conducted overnight on Sunday, targeted illegal hunting activities within the protected forest area.

According to Lt. Commander Tarek Ahmed, Operations Officer of the Coast Guard West Zone Headquarters (Mongla), the operations were carried out based on intelligence reports. Coast Guard stations in Koyra, Koikhali, and Harbaria conducted the raids in the Koyra, Shyamnagar, and Joymonirghol areas of Mongla, respectively.

The operations resulted in the seizure of 205 kilograms of deer meat, two deer heads, two deer skins, and eight deer legs. One poacher, identified as Md. Babu Alam, 27, from Shyamnagar police station in Satkhira district, was apprehended.

"In this operation, 205 kg of deer meat, 2 deer heads, 2 deer skins and 8 deer legs illegally hunted from all those areas of the Sundarbans coast and one poacher were arrested," stated Lt. Commander Ahmed.

The seized deer meat and animal parts were subsequently destroyed with kerosene. The arrested poacher has been handed over to the police for further legal action.

The Coast Guard's operations highlight ongoing efforts to combat poaching and protect the wildlife of the Sundarbans, a critical ecosystem facing threats from illegal hunting.
