Tangail, Mar 16 (V7N) – Teachers from private secondary schools in Tangail district held a human chain protest on Sunday, March 16, demanding the nationalization of secondary education and the elimination of disparities between government and private institutions.

Organized by the Tangail district branch of the Bangladesh Teachers Association (BTA), the protest aimed to highlight a 10-point demand, including 100 percent festival allowance, full house rent, medical allowance, and a swift resolution to electronic fund transfer (EFT) issues, all before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

The hour-long human chain took place in front of the Tangail Press Club, after which a memorandum outlining their demands was submitted to the Chief Advisor and Education Advisor through the Deputy Commissioner.

Shamim Al Mamun Jewel, General Secretary of the BTA Central Committee, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. Other speakers included Golam Rabbani, Vice President of the Central Committee; Tahazzat Hossain, International Affairs Secretary; Abdullah Al Mamun, President of the Sadar Upazila Committee; and teacher leaders from various upazilas.

The speakers emphasized the urgent need to eliminate discrimination within the education sector, stating that it is a matter of national importance. They warned of a "tough movement" after Eid-ul-Fitr if their demands are not met.

The human chain was led by Mir Moniruzzaman Monir, general secretary of the Tangail district branch of the Teachers' Association.

The protest highlights the ongoing struggle of private school teachers in Bangladesh for equal rights and benefits compared to their government counterparts.
