Barguna, Mar 17 (V7N)– BNP Executive Committee Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Moni has visited the family of Montu Chandra Das, who was murdered in Barguna, and pledged full cooperation in their pursuit of a fair trial. He also provided one lakh taka in cash assistance to the deceased's wife, Shikha Rani.
The visit, which took place on Monday morning, March 17, saw a BNP delegation led by Moni arrive at Montu Das's residence in Kalibari Koritala, Barguna Municipality.
"Under the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, we are standing by Montu Das' family," said Nurul Islam Moni. "We are trying our best to ensure that they get a fair trial. For that, our legal team will fight the case free of charge until the final stage."
Montu Chandra Das's body was discovered in a bush near the Kalibari Staff Quarters pond on the night of March 11. His wife subsequently filed a case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against unknown assailants.
Das, an employee at a local chicken shop, leaves behind his wife and three daughters, including a one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl. The family is now facing severe financial hardship.
The family alleges that Montu Das was murdered in retaliation for filing a police case accusing individuals of kidnapping and raping his daughter. His wife has filed a separate case with Barguna Police Station in connection with the murder.
According to Barguna Sadar Police Station sources, Srijib Chandra Roy, the accused in the kidnapping and rape case, along with his associates Kalu and Rafiq, have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. An investigation into both cases is ongoing.
