Morelganj, Bagerhat, Apr 11 (V7N) – After a 20-year hiatus, the Morelganj Nationalist Party (BNP) Municipal Council is set to take place on April 16th, igniting excitement among grassroots leaders and activists. The Farid-Milon panel, led by Sikder Faridul Islam for President and Asaduzzaman Milon for General Secretary, is conducting an extensive public relations campaign in an effort to secure votes.
"After almost two decades, excitement has returned among the grassroots leaders and activists surrounding the upcoming council of the Morelganj Nationalist Party Municipal BNP in Bagerhat. Candidates are going door to door to seek votes for the panel. Sikder Faridul Islam for the post of Municipal BNP President and Asaduzzaman Milon for the post of General Secretary have made extensive public outreach," reported M. Palash Sharif, Bagerhat Correspondent.
On Friday morning, party leaders and activists distributed leaflets and held mass meetings across the nine wards of the municipal city, seeking support for the Farid-Milon panel.
"On Friday at 11 am, party leaders and activists distributed leaflets and held mass meetings in various alleys of 9 wards of the municipal city, seeking votes for Farid-Milon," Sharif detailed.
A workers' meeting was later held at Nabbirashi Bus Strand, where Bagerhat district BNP leader Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon, a party nomination aspirant for the Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj-Sharankhola) constituency, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. He emphasized that the Farid-Milon panel, consisting of experienced leaders who have faced persecution during the past 17 years, deserves the support of the party.
"Later, Bagerhat district BNP leader Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon, a party nomination aspirant for Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj-Sharankhola) constituency, spoke as the chief guest at a workers' meeting at Nabbirashi Bus Strand," the report stated.
Shipon also asserted that those who have collaborated with the Awami League in the past should not have a place within the BNP, stressing the importance of valuing experienced leaders for a well-organized party.
"Chief guest Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon said that the party's experienced leaders who have confessed to the cases of persecution and attacks during the Awami fascist government in the past 17 years will win the municipal council elections on April 16 by voting for the Shikder Faridul Islam and Asaduzzaman Milon panel. He also said that those who have been joining hands with the Awami in the past cannot have a place in the party. If the party is to be well-organized, the experienced leaders must be evaluated," Sharif noted.
The Morelganj Municipal BNP council, taking place on April 16th, marks the first such event in the upazila since 2001, a gap of 24 years. Party voters from the nine wards will cast their ballots for the positions of President, General Secretary, and Organizing Secretary.
"It is worth mentioning that, 24 years after the municipal BNP council in 2001, the municipal BNP council is finally going to be held in this upazila on April 16. In this council, party voters of 9 wards will exercise their voting rights for the 3 posts of president, general secretary and organizing secretary," the report specified.
The presidential race features current Municipal BNP Convener Sikder Faridul Islam and Principal Jahangir Al Azad. For the General Secretary position, the candidates are Municipal BNP Joint Conveners Asaduzzaman Milon and former Jubo Dal leader Farhad Hossain Milon. The Organizing Secretary position has four contenders: Municipal Jubo Dal Senior Joint Secretary Md. Abbas Munshi, Municipal BNP Joint Conveners Md. Selim Mollah and Badiuzzaman Maharaj, and former Municipal Jubo Dal Deputy General Secretary Md. Imrul Kabir (Raju). All candidates are actively campaigning through leaflet distribution and mass outreach.
"Two candidates are contesting for the post of president in the election, current municipal BNP convener Sikder Faridul Islam, member secretary Principal Jahangir Al Azad, two municipal BNP joint conveners Asaduzzaman Milon and former Jubo Dal leader Farhad Hossain Milon are also contesting for the post of general secretary. In addition, 4 candidates are contesting for the organizational post... All these candidates are distributing leaflets and conducting mass outreach to seek votes for their respective positions," Sharif reported.
