Kanthalia, Jhalakathi, Apr 12 (V7N)– A traditional rural horse racing competition was held today in Kachua, Kantalia Upazila of Jhalakathi, as part of local customs to bid farewell to the outgoing year. Fifteen horses participated in the spirited event.

"A traditional rural horse race was held in Kachua, Kantalia Upazila of Jhalakathi to bid farewell to the old year. Fifteen horses participated in the competition," reported a Jhalakathi Representative.

The horse race, organized by the local youth society of Kachua, took place on Saturday, April 12th, at the grounds of the Khandaker house.

"On Saturday (April 12), the local youth society of Kachua organized the horse race at the Khandaker house grounds," the report confirmed.

The event drew significant crowds, with thousands of men, women, and children from various villages and towns, including Kantalia, Rajapur, Betagi, and even neighboring Barguna, coming to witness the traditional spectacle. A local fair also sprang up around the racing field, adding to the festive atmosphere.

"Thousands of men, women and children from various villages and towns including Kantalia, Rajapur, Betagi and Barguna participated in the horse racing. Locals organized a fair around the field," a local attendee noted.

In the thrilling competition, the horse owned by Md. Enayete Hossain of Dogna emerged victorious, securing the first position. The second place was claimed by the horse of Md. Mohsin from Aurabunia, while the horse belonging to Miraj Sikder, also from Dogna, finished third.

"In this, the horse of Md. Enayete Hossain of Dogna came first. In turn, the horse of Md. Mohsin of Aurabunia came second and the horse of Miraj Sikder of Dogna came third," the results indicated.

Following the races, the prizes were distributed to the winners by Md. Atiqur Rahman Rubel, the founder and president of the young social worker and Rubel Youth and Sports Association, the organization instrumental in the event's success.

"Later, the prizes were distributed among the winners by the founder and president of the young social worker and Rubel Youth and Sports Association, Md. Atiqur Rahman Rubel," the report concluded.
