Jhalakathi, Apr 20 (V7N)- The Jhalakathi District Council has extended financial support totaling Tk 2 million to the families of ten individuals from the district who were killed by bullet wounds in Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student protests, known as the July-August Revolution. The assistance was provided during a ceremony held at the District Commissioner's office meeting room on Sunday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman distributed cheques of Tk 200,000 each to the bereaved families. The deceased included students and employees from four sub-districts of Jhalakathi who were residing and studying in Dhaka at the time of the incidents.
Among those present at the cheque distribution were Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Ujjal Kumar Roy, Civil Surgeon Humayun Kabir, and the Chief Executive Officer of the District Council, Imran Shahariar.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman emphasized the historical significance of the July-August Revolution, stating that its "bloody history will live on as a milestone for the nation for ages." He affirmed the state's and the community's responsibility to support the families and children of the martyrs, reminding attendees that the sacrifices of thousands led to the creation of a new Bangladesh.
