Rajshahi, Apr 21 (V7N) - The Naodapara brick kiln in Rajshahi city, owned by Md. Masdar, has raised significant environmental concerns due to its operations near schools and agricultural land. Despite previous calls for closure, the kiln continues to operate, allegedly managed by local leaders and the administration.

Local residents have expressed frustration over the brick kiln's impact on the environment and crop lands. Reports indicate that the kiln operates without a license or environmental clearance, contributing to soil degradation and air pollution. The community has attempted to shut down the kiln multiple times but faces intimidation from the owner, who reportedly threatens journalists and locals.

Officials from the Rajshahi Agricultural Extension Department and the Environment Department have acknowledged the illegal status of many brick kilns in the area. They emphasize that brick kilns should not be built on cropland, yet many have been established on or near agricultural fields. The Rajshahi Brickyard Owners Association admits that most local kilns lack the necessary clearances due to legal complications.

The Rajshahi Environment Department has indicated plans to take action against illegal brick kilns, including those in the Naodapara area. However, the effectiveness of these measures remains uncertain, as previous attempts to close such operations have often been met with resistance and have failed to produce lasting results. The situation highlights the ongoing struggle between environmental protection and local economic interests, as well as the challenges faced by authorities in enforcing regulations against illegal brick kiln operations.
