Dhaka, Apr 20 (V7N)- Central Chhatra Dal President Md. Rakibul Islam Rakib has alleged that the killing of Chhatra Dal activist Zahidul Islam Parvez was a premeditated murder, calling for immediate justice and the arrest of those responsible. He made these remarks at a press conference held on Sunday.
In a strongly worded statement, Rakib said, “The old fascism has returned under a new name,” condemning the incident and claiming that it was not a spontaneous act, but rather a calculated attack aimed at intimidating Chhatra Dal members.
Rakib accused several leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement of being directly involved in the attack, including:
-
Mehraj Islam, Joint Convener of Banani Police Station unit,
-
Sobhan Niaz Tushar, and
-
Hridoy Miyaji, Joint Member Secretary.
He questioned the role of the university proctor, saying, “If this wasn’t premeditated, why would such a heinous incident take place over a trivial matter?”
Rakib alleged that some members of the anti-discrimination movement were engaging in mob-style intimidation tactics, reminiscent of the Chhatra League's past actions, to suppress Chhatra Dal activities on various campuses, including private universities.
“They have tried to establish control and fear under the banner of student activism. This is nothing but an attempt to silence democratic voices under a new identity,” he said.
The Chhatra Dal president also criticized a Facebook post made by the anti-discrimination student movement following Parvez’s murder. He labeled the post as “indecent and insensitive,” noting that it defended the accused rather than calling for an impartial investigation.
“Instead of showing respect for the victim and demanding justice, they chose to defend the accused, which raises serious questions about their intentions,” Rakib said. He further alleged that the organization is becoming a rehabilitation center for former Chhatra League members, pointing out that many of its committees now include such individuals.
Rakib informed the media that a case has already been filed by Parvez’s cousin at the Banani Police Station, naming five leaders of the anti-discrimination movement. “Their connection to the incident and their organizational affiliation has been clearly mentioned in the FIR,” he added.
Chhatra Dal has called for a fair and swift investigation, warning that if justice is denied, they will launch a nationwide protest demanding accountability and the restoration of student rights in educational institutions.
