Savar, APR 27 (V7N) – A pregnant woman was allegedly raped and then murdered by her second husband in a bamboo grove in Savar, according to police. The husband, Sohag Molla (35), was arrested in the Ashulia area late Saturday night.

The Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle), Md. Shahinur Kabir, revealed details of the case at a press conference at Savar Model Police Station on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, Tania Akter (24), worked at a ready-made garment factory called ANS in Ashulia, where she met and married Sohag Molla, who also worked there. Police stated that Tania had left her first husband and child due to an extramarital affair with Sohag. Trouble reportedly arose in their marriage when Sohag expressed his reluctance to have children. Upon learning of Tania's pregnancy, Sohag allegedly plotted to kill her.

According to police, Sohag took Tania to a bamboo grove in the Kaliakoir area of Birulia Union around 8 pm on April 23rd, under the guise of a trip. There, he allegedly raped her and then strangled her to death with her veil. He then left her body naked at the scene.

Police recovered Tania's body after receiving information. Utilizing information technology, they identified and arrested her husband, Sohag Molla, in a raid in Ashulia on Saturday night.

During initial questioning, Sohag Molla reportedly confessed to the rape and murder. Tania's father, Nurul Haque, has filed a murder case with Savar Model Police Station.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shahinur Kabir stated that the accused was identified through CCTV footage and evidence collected from the vicinity of the crime scene. He confirmed Sohag's confession during the initial interrogation and added that Sohag has been sent to court with a request for a 7-day remand for further investigation.
