Rajshahi, May 21 (V7N) – An unexploded mortar shell, discovered in Syedpur (Rishipara) of Puthia Upazila, Rajshahi, has been successfully neutralized by the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
The neutralization operation took place around 12:30 PM on Monday in Matchpara Bill, located in the Gaopara area of the upazila.
The mortar shell was initially spotted on Sunday evening around 7:00 PM by Sumon, son of the late Niren Das, near a canal bank beside his home in Syedpur (Rishipara) village, Jiupara Union. The object was described as an iron, rusty, mortar shell-like item, approximately 7 inches long with the model number 6CHRF5/61 engraved on it. The discovery quickly spread among locals, and one individual promptly informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, Sub-Inspector Abdul Mannan Sarkar of Puthia Police Station, along with his accompanying force, arrived at the scene. They identified the abandoned mortar shell, recovered it, and transported it to the police station.
Puthia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that around 12:30 PM on Monday, a specialized four-member team from the RMP's Bomb Disposal Unit, led by Sub-Inspector (AB) Aminul Islam, along with a nine-member team from RMP's EJT, safely neutralized the recovered mortar shell.
