DHAKA, May 20, (V7N) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) shortly after Eid-ul-Azha, as both nations seek to refresh their ties and enhance cooperation across economic, trade, and investment sectors.
A senior official informed UNB on Tuesday that the visit is tentatively planned for June 9-13, with both sides currently working to finalize the agenda.
During his visit, the Chief Adviser is expected to hold discussions with King Charles and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The recovery of laundered money and assets abroad will also be a significant topic of discussion during the visit. Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Monday, indicated that the Chief Adviser would prioritize efforts to recover stolen money and assets abroad during his trip to London.
The current government asserts that the previous regime enabled the laundering of an estimated $16 billion annually.
Earlier, the Chief Adviser had sought assistance from the British government, through its envoy in Dhaka, to track and repatriate funds allegedly laundered to the UK by individuals linked to the former Sheikh Hasina-led government.
Senior officials from the Bangladesh Bank and the Anti-Corruption Commission are expected to accompany the Chief Adviser during the visit to participate in discussions on strategies for repatriating the laundered money.
The Chief Adviser recently visited China and is also slated to pay an official visit to Japan later this month.
