Jhalokathi, Dec 22 (V7N) — A Jhalokathi court on Sunday sent former Jhalokathi Municipality mayor Afzal Hossain Rana to jail after he was shown arrested in an explosives case.

Sadar Police Station produced Rana before the court on Sunday afternoon, December 21, after formally arresting him in connection with the case. Following the hearing, the court ordered that he be sent to the district jail.

Earlier in the on Sunday, Rana went to the Jhalokathi Deputy Commissioner’s Office to renew his firearms license. While leaving the premises, he was detained by members of the Detective Branch (DB) of district police and taken to the DB office for questioning.

Afzal Hossain Rana is also the Joint General Secretary of the Jhalokathi District Awami League.

Officer-in-Charge of the District Detective Branch, Touhiduzzaman, said DB handed Rana over to Sadar Police Station at around 3:00 pm.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Ahmed confirmed that Rana was shown arrested in an explosives case and produced before the court, which subsequently ordered his detention in the district jail.
