BOGURA, Feb 11 (V7N): A delegation of European Union election observers today inspected the distribution of election materials in Bogura ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum-2026.
The team, including Paul Kamelia and Evelin Kivima, visited the Bogura Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium this morning to observe preparations.
During the visit, the observers monitored the distribution process of ballot papers, ballot boxes and other essential election materials. They also exchanged views with election officials responsible for overseeing the arrangements.
According to the District Election Office, materials are being dispatched in phases to 983 polling centres across 12 upazilas in the district. Presiding officers are receiving the supplies, which include ballot papers, ballot boxes, seals, stamps and necessary forms.
Materials for 150 polling centres under Bogura Sadar Upazila are being distributed from the Upazila Parishad auditorium, with the formal handover process beginning at 10:00 am.
Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed, Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafa Manjur, and Upazila Election Officer Zayed Ibne Abul Fazal handed over the materials to presiding officers. Law enforcement agencies were present to ensure security during the distribution.
Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency is considered politically significant. Five candidates, including BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, are contesting in the seat. In total, 34 candidates from various political parties are competing across the district’s seven parliamentary constituencies. Participating parties include BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolon, Jatiya Party, BASAD, CPB and others.
Bogura comprises 12 upazilas and 12 municipalities. The total number of voters across the seven constituencies stands at 2,981,940 — including 1,480,871 male voters, 1,501,007 female voters and 42 third-gender voters. The district has 5,578 polling booths, both permanent and temporary.
Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed said all preparations have been completed to ensure a free and peaceful election. He expressed optimism that voting will be held in a festive atmosphere on Thursday.
