The library was formally inaugurated on Saturday afternoon by Dr. Anil Chandra Basak, former scientific officer of the Chittagong Forest Conservation Department. At the same event, Chandpai UP Chairman Mollah Tariqul Islam unveiled the covers of three new books authored by Sarkar.
The ceremony drew a wide range of participants, including Francis Sudan Halder, former headmaster of St. Paul’s High School, and Subhas Biswas, president of the Father Marino Regon Education Development Foundation. The program was moderated by Dr. Shishir Kumar Biswas, former principal of Chuadanga Veterinary Training Institute.
Heads of local educational institutions attended and were presented with unopened copies of Sarkar’s books for their school libraries, reinforcing the initiative’s focus on spreading knowledge. Local dignitaries also joined the event, underscoring the community’s support for the project.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sarkar explained his motivation: “Nowadays, people all read mobile phones, not books. This is my effort and endeavor to arouse their interest in reading these books.” He emphasized that the library was built on his ancestral land to honor his father’s legacy and to encourage a culture of reading among the younger generation.
The establishment of the Satish Chandra Library adds a new dimension to Mongla’s educational landscape, offering a space for students, teachers, and residents to engage with literature and knowledge in a time when digital distractions often overshadow traditional learning.
