BARGUNA, April 26, (V7N) — A farmer died after being electrocuted while installing an irrigation pump line in Patharghata upazila of Barguna.
The deceased was identified as Md. Jahangir Fakir (55), son of the late Tajem Ali Fakir and Nur Jahan of Bainchatki area. The accident occurred Sunday afternoon in the Majerchar area when Jahangir accidentally touched an electric wire and fell into his pond.
Family members and neighbors began searching when he did not return home for hours. Eventually, locals Md. Riaz and Md. Lal Mia spotted his body floating in the pond and informed police.
Police from Patharghata station recovered the body later in the evening. Officer‑in‑Charge Enamul Haque confirmed the incident, stating that the body will be handed over to the family after completing necessary legal procedures.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over the farming community, where irrigation work is vital during the season. Locals expressed concern about the risks of handling electrical equipment without proper safety measures.
