RANGAMATI, July 2, (V7N) Police in Rangamati have arrested two drug peddlers with 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets during a special operation in front of the main gate of Mari Stadium on Thursday evening.

The arrested are Jalmon Chakma (49) of Kutukchhari Union, Sadar Upazila, and Notun Babu Tanchangya (39) of Dhoppachari, Bilaichhari Upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a special team from Kotwali Police Station conducted the raid around 7 pm, recovering the narcotics from the suspects.

At a midnight press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Sekender and Kotwali OC Jasim Uddin confirmed that a case will be filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Police will seek remand to interrogate the suspects and trace the wider drug network, including supply routes and other members involved.

Sekender emphasized that the Rangamati District Police’s anti-drug campaign will continue relentlessly: “No drug dealer will be spared.”

According to Kotwali Police Station sources, nine cases have been filed under the Narcotics Control Act in the past month, with 12 drug peddlers arrested. Regular operations are being conducted to maintain law and order and curb drug trafficking in the district.

This arrest highlights the ongoing battle against Yaba trafficking, a major challenge in Bangladesh’s hill districts, where law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to dismantle organized drug rings.
