CUMILLA, July 4 (V7N) — Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher today said BNP has delivered the country's desired development whenever it assumed state power.

He thanked the people for electing BNP in nine constituencies of Cumilla in the last national election, adding that development activities accelerated across the country, including Cumilla, whenever BNP formed the government in the past.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a citizens' gathering at the Cumilla Town Hall ground this afternoon as chief guest.

He said citizens are now able to hold public meetings in a free environment, reflecting a positive democratic atmosphere.

He further said the Cumilla Development Authority Bill was passed in the first session after the current government was formed, meeting a long-standing demand of local residents.

The minister noted that the Cumilla-6 lawmaker has been playing an important role in local development initiatives and is actively involved in implementing various development plans.

He also said a major project is underway to establish sports complexes in every division. Although Cumilla is not yet a division, a sports complex is also being planned there, he added.

Cumilla South District BNP Senior Vice President Amiruzzaman Bhuiyan chaired the programme.

Cumilla-6 lawmaker Monirul Haque Chowdhury presented development proposals, expressing hope for faster development under the current government.

The event was attended by BNP leaders, local administrators and professionals.
