Rajshahi, Feb 24 (V7N) – Students of Rajshahi University (RU) organized a protest march today, demanding immediate action against those responsible for the escalating law and order crisis in the country. The rally took place at Joha Square, in front of the university's administration building, where students called for the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Chanting powerful slogans such as "This Bengal will not be a haven for rapists," and "I want hanging, hanging, I want hanging of rapists," students expressed their outrage at the government's inaction in the face of rising violence. They also held a symbolic funeral procession in absentia for the Home Affairs Advisor, underscoring their demand for accountability.

Mehdi Maruf, a student of the Population Science Department, addressed the crowd, stating, "If you cannot work, then we do not want such an NGO-style government... Form an inclusive government in Bangladesh. If you fail to do so, step down from your responsibilities." He emphasized the potential for the student community to drive change, referencing their role in the mass uprising of 2024.

Prasanjit Sarkar, a law student, criticized the Home Affairs Advisor's perceived inaction, saying, "A kind of anarchy has been created in the country... He is sitting on a mattress like a wooden doll. Our common people have no security." He demanded the Advisor's immediate resignation, highlighting the lack of effective governance.

Wazed Shishir, from the Persian Language Department, voiced concerns over the worsening law and order situation, stating, "Kidnapping and rape have now become daily occurrences... If he cannot fulfill his duties, then leave it to the students and the people."

Rakibul Islam, from the Arabic department, lamented the violence faced by women during the July Uprising, saying, "The days of civility are over; Bangladesh wants justice." He called for an end to disappearances, murders, kidnappings, and extortion, insisting that the current climate is unacceptable.

The protest reflects a significant surge in student activism as they demand justice and accountability from their government. As tensions rise, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to the mounting pressure from students and citizens alike.
