Nov 26, (V7N) Wicked has set a new box office milestone, earning $15.8 million on Monday—the highest-ever for a November Monday (not adjusted for inflation). This surpasses the previous record of $12.7 million set by Frozen II in 2019. Other top contenders for November Mondays include The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($12.3 million) and Skyfall ($11.3 million).

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked has reached a domestic total of $128.3 million after an impressive $112.5 million opening weekend—the best-ever debut for a film adapted from a Broadway musical. The film's global earnings are nearing $200 million.

Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's Gladiator II brought in $5.5 million on Monday, pushing its domestic total to $55 million and surpassing $226 million globally.

The Thanksgiving holiday week traditionally boosts box office numbers, and this year is no exception. With Wicked, Gladiator II, and the highly anticipated release of Disney's Moana 2 (opening Wednesday with Tuesday previews), the industry expects record ticket sales for the five-day holiday stretch. Moana 2 is projected to gross between $125 million and $135 million, surpassing even Frozen’s holiday debuts.

Moana 2’s strong advantage lies in its appeal as the only PG-rated family film during the holiday and its continued popularity—the original Moana was the most-streamed movie of 2023.
