Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N)—National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's grandson Babul Kazi, who was on life support at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), has died at the age of 59.
He breathed his last at 5:30pm today (19 January), Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the NIBPS Emergency Department, confirmed to The Business Standard.
Babul was admitted to NIBPS with 74% burns on his body at 6:30am yesterday and was subsequently shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As his condition deteriorated, he was placed on life support at around 8pm yesterday.
According to relatives and doctors, Babul Kazi lived on the fourth floor of house no-109 on Road no-23 in Banani. Yesterday, around 5:30am, he went to light a cigarette with a lighter in the bathroom when an explosion occurred immediately. He was rushed to the NIBPS.
A 19-member medical board was formed to oversee his treatment.
Babul Kazi was the youngest of three children and the son of renowned recitation artists Kazi Sabyasachi and Uma Kazi. His elder sisters, Khilkhil Kazi and Misty Kazi, are both citizens of Bangladesh.
