Dhaka, Feb 22 (V7N) – Police have deployed water cannons and sound grenades on members of the Bangladesh Outsourcing Employees' Welfare Association, who were staging a protest on the road in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital, demanding permanent employment.
The incident took place at 3:15pm on Saturday.
On-site reports indicate that the outsourcing workers had been blocking the road in front of the Jatiya Press Club for over two hours, causing severe traffic congestion in the Secretariat and surrounding areas.
Senior police officials repeatedly requested the protesters to clear the road, but as they did not comply, water cannons and sound grenades were used to disperse them.
The police fired five sound grenades at the protesters, injuring two individuals.
At present, the situation in front of the Press Club remains tense, but traffic movement has returned to normal.\
