DHAKA, April 5, (V7N) — Over 10.7 million SIM card holders left Dhaka between March 28 and April 3 to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with family and loved ones outside the capital, according to official data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts and Telecommunications Division, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, shared the figures in a Facebook post on Saturday. He noted that during the same period, around 4.44 million mobile SIM users re-entered Dhaka.
Quoting BTRC data, Taiyeb wrote, “Some 1.7 crore SIM users left Dhaka during the seven days of Eid holidays. On the other hand, 44 lakh mobile SIM users entered Dhaka.” The statistics highlight the massive migration flow typical during major national holidays.
These figures are often used to track population movements and anticipate transport demand and urban congestion, as millions of people leave the capital to reunite with their families during Eid, one of the largest religious celebrations in Bangladesh.
