FEB 12 (V7N) - Assistant District Returning Officer and Additional District Magistrate Nishat Sharmin said Thursday the election in Rangamati was conducted in a fair, peaceful, and orderly environment.

Unofficial results show independent candidate Pahlel Chakma lost by a margin of 228,988 votes. Out of 509,267 registered voters in the constituency, more than 54 percent cast ballots.

Other candidates in the race included Md. Jasim Uddin of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (Hand Fan), Jui Chakma of Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party (Spade), Ashok Talukdar of Jatiya Party (Plough), and Abu Bashar Badsha of Ganodhikar Parishad (Truck).
