Chattogram, Mar 30 (V7N) – A fuel-laden tanker, PVT Solana, carrying 27,300 tonnes of refined diesel from Malaysia, is set to arrive at Chattogram Port today, amid ongoing fuel supply concerns.
According to port authorities, the vessel is expected to anchor at the outer anchorage after completing necessary formalities and is scheduled to berth at the dolphin jetty tomorrow for unloading. Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim confirmed the development, stating that the shipment is part of efforts to stabilize fuel supply.
“The ongoing global situation and instability in the Middle East have triggered a fuel crisis worldwide. The impact is also visible in Bangladesh. To tackle the situation, the port authority is prioritizing the unloading of fuel-carrying vessels,” he said.
The port secretary revealed that in the past 27 days, a total of 33 vessels carrying LNG, LPG, crude oil, gas oil, and base oil have arrived at the port.
Another LNG shipment is expected on April 4
A previous tanker carrying 31,000 tonnes of diesel, which arrived on March 26, has already completed discharge and departed
A senior official from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), speaking anonymously, said Bangladesh is also importing fuel via land routes.
Around 7,000 tonnes of diesel have already arrived through a pipeline from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), India
Another shipment scheduled for March 31 may face slight delays due to procedural issues
The continued inflow of fuel highlights the government’s effort to ease supply চাপ, as the global energy market remains volatile due to geopolitical tensions.
Authorities say prioritizing fuel shipments at ports is now critical to ensure steady distribution and prevent shortages across the country.
