DHAKA, April 28 (V7N) — A Dhaka court today placed two personal staffers of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s former Defence and Security Adviser, Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, on a fresh three-day remand each. The order was issued in connection with a case filed over the killing of trader Abdul Wadud during the student-led July Mass Uprising in 2024.
The accused have been identified as Md Mohidul Islam, the former adviser’s driver, and Md Chan Miah, his house caretaker.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order after police produced the duo in court following the expiry of a previous four-day remand. While the investigating officer prayed for a seven-day extension to facilitate further interrogation, the court granted three days for each of the suspects.
Background of the Case
The case centers on the death of Abdul Wadud, a local trader who was fatally shot on July 19, 2024, in the Nilkhet area under the jurisdiction of New Market Police Station. The shooting occurred during the anti-discrimination student movement that eventually led to the fall of the Awami League government.
The victim’s brother-in-law, Abdur Rob, filed the murder case, which names 130 individuals, including:
Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister
Obaidul Quader, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Various high-ranking security officials and political leaders
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Mohidul and Chan Miah were arrested on April 19, 2026; Mohidul was apprehended in Thakurgaon, while Chan Miah was picked up from the capital’s Bhashantek area. Since their arrest, they have undergone multiple rounds of questioning:
April 20: First placed on a four-day remand.
April 24: Placed on a second four-day remand.
April 28 (Today): Granted a third phase of remand for three days.
The investigation continues to probe the involvement of high-profile advisers and their subordinates in the heavy-handed crackdown on protesters during the 2024 uprising.
