NARSINGDI, June 19, (V7N)– BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, MP, has said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the first leader to initiate efforts to modernize agriculture in Bangladesh. Speaking at a Partner Congress organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension at the Palash Upazila Parishad, Moyeen Khan said that at a time when the country was facing food shortages, Ziaur Rahman took the initiative to modernize the agricultural sector to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.

The BNP leader said the current government has undertaken various initiatives to increase agricultural production in the country. He noted that the government has taken a program to plant 500 million fruit-bearing and forest trees over the next five years, aiming to make the country greener and more prosperous while helping to prevent environmental degradation.

Palash Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ishtiaq Ahmed chaired the programme, while Azizul Haque, Deputy Director of the Narsingdi District Department of Agricultural Extension, and Ayesha Akter, Upazila Agriculture Officer, were also present. Local BNP leaders including Abdus Sattar, President of Palash Upazila BNP, Saiful Haque, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary Bahauddin Bhuiyan Milton attended the event.

The Partner Congress brought together farmers, agricultural officials, and local leaders to discuss agricultural development and extension services in the region. The programme focused on ways to improve farming practices and increase productivity among local farmers.

At the end of the program, Moyeen Khan distributed saplings, fertilizers, seeds, and cash assistance among local farmers. The distribution aimed to support farmers in their cultivation efforts and encourage the adoption of modern agricultural practices to boost food production in the area.
