MADHABPUR (HABIGANJ) JUNE 19 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intercepted and detained a Bangladeshi national attempting to cross into India illegally through the Mohanpur border area in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj. In connection with the incident, two local facilitators were also arrested on charges of human trafficking.

The operation was conducted at around 6:30 AM on Thursday (June 18) by a patrol team from the Dharmaghar Border Outpost (BOP), operating under the Sarail Battalion (25 BGB). The arrests took place approximately 200 yards inside Bangladeshi territory from border pillar 1994/4-S in Mohanpur.

The detainees have been identified as Ujjal Chandra Deb, 35, son of Santosh Chandra Deb from Kalikachha village under Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria; Md. Mosharraf Hossain, 28, son of the late Abdul Motaleb from Gobindapur village; and Md. Rahul, 22, son of Md. Milon Miah from Mohanpur village in Madhabpur upazila.

According to the BGB, during initial interrogation, Ujjal Chandra Deb confessed that he was attempting to cross the border illegally to visit his ailing sister living in Agartala, India. He had struck a deal worth BDT 10,000 with Mosharraf Hossain and Rahul to facilitate his clandestine passage before the BGB patrol team thwarted the attempt.

Law enforcement personnel seized BDT 500, INR 300, and an Android smartphone from the possession of the detainees. A formal case has been registered against them, and they have been handed over to the Madhabpur Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Jabbar, Commanding Officer of the Sarail Battalion (25 BGB), stated, "The BGB remains completely steadfast in its commitment to preventing any form of illegal border crossing along the Madhabpur frontier. Our strict operations against unauthorized infiltration and human trafficking will continue unabated."
