DHAKA, JUNE 20, (V7N) — The national final of the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament concluded at the Army Stadium in Dhaka, marking the culmination of what is being hailed as the largest grassroots football tournament in the world.
Mahdi Amin, Advisor and Spokesperson to the Prime Minister’s Office, attended the event as the special guest and highlighted the unparalleled scale of the competition during his post-match address.
A Massive Scale of Participation
The countrywide tournament achieved record-breaking participation across the primary education tier, showcasing massive gender parity in sports engagement:
Total Schools: Over 65,000 schools fielded teams.
Total Athletes: 2.2 million students competed nationwide.
Gender Balance: The competition saw an even split of 1.1 million boys and 1.1 million girls.
Total Matches: An extraordinary 123,000 matches were played across local, upazila, district, and divisional levels.
