Chattogram, Oct 2 (V7N) – Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah has said that raising productivity requires more than research and innovation, which also means understanding how consumer demand is changing and preparing for it in advance.

"If we fail to understand the buyer, or lack the research to do so, we will not be able to survive in the market," he said, stressing that businesses must grasp buyers' needs to stay competitive globally.

He was speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the Chattogram Circuit House conference room marking National Productivity Day 2026.

Citing major global corporations, he said successful organizations research the tastes and demands of future consumers well ahead of time. "Product and market planning must take into account how the preferences of the younger generation are shifting and what they will want in the future," he added.

Noting that countries and markets are now closely interconnected, he added, "We must raise our mindset to that level as well."

National Productivity Day is observed in Bangladesh to raise awareness about the importance of productivity in economic development and to recognize the contributions of workers, entrepreneurs, and professionals. The National Productivity Organization (NPO), under the Ministry of Industries, works to promote productivity and quality management in various sectors. The government has been emphasizing productivity enhancement as part of its broader strategy to achieve a trillion-dollar economy by 2034. Earlier in the day, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued a message stating that there is no alternative to increasing productivity to ensure the optimum use of limited resources, improve product quality, reduce production costs and wastage, and enhance competitiveness in international markets.
