Tangail, Mar 2 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan has said that September 5th will be a historic day for the country, as it marks the announcement of the election schedule. According to him, December 5th will be the day for the national elections. He referred to September 5th as a day of significance in Bangladesh’s history, as it symbolizes the fall of autocracy and fascism. Khan expressed that both BNP and other political parties are mentally and organizationally preparing for the upcoming elections.

Azam Khan made these remarks on Saturday afternoon in response to journalists' questions during a farewell event for SSC students at Success Academic School & Coaching Center in Basail, Tangail. He further explained that the interim government has expressed its intention to hold elections in December, which would be the national parliamentary elections. Khan emphasized that the people of Bangladesh are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to vote, as they have been denied their voting rights in the last three national elections.

Khan reiterated that if the election schedule is announced on September 5th, there would still be six months left to complete the necessary reforms and preparations for the elections. He assured that there would be enough time to hold the elections by December 5th if the schedule is declared on time.

Regarding new political parties, Azam Khan welcomed the formation of new parties and expressed that BNP is open to all parties participating in the elections. He clarified that they will support any party, including new ones, that decides to contest the elections in Bangladesh. However, he also emphasized the need for unity among all political parties to prepare for the upcoming elections together.

Khan also took a dig at certain parties that are opposing the elections and calling for local elections instead of the national ones. He warned that such parties were likely involved in conspiracies against the people's right to vote, and their opposition to the national elections revealed their fear of a fair vote.

The event was chaired by the founder of the institution, Shanowar Khan Naim, and speeches were delivered by various local leaders, including former joint secretary of district BNP Abu Kashem, district youth secretary Touhidul Islam Babu, acting general secretary of Basail upazila BNP Mamun Al Jahangir, convenor of Basail upazila Krishak Dal Nurul Islam Robin, and vice-president of Basail upazila BNP Sorhab Hossain.
