Dhaka, Mar 02 (V7N) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on Bangladesh's religious leaders, Ulema, and Mashayekh, to consider whether Ramadan and Eid could be observed on the same day globally, leveraging advancements in science and technology. Speaking virtually from London at an Iftar Mahfil organized by BNP at the Ladies Club in Dhaka, Tarique highlighted the unity seen in the global Christian community celebrating Christmas on the same day. He urged Islamic scholars to explore whether similar global synchronization could be achieved for Ramadan and Eid.

Tarique emphasized that Ramadan teaches self-restraint, patience, and solidarity, urging prayers for peace and harmony in Bangladesh. He also called for collective efforts to ensure that every citizen can live peacefully and for Allah's mercy on the nation. The event was attended by orphans and students from local madrasas, alongside BNP leaders and prominent Islamic scholars.

Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member, warned against attempts to create divisions between BNP and the Ulema-Mashayekh community. He alleged that both internal and external forces aim to exploit such divisions to harm not only BNP but also the country. Abbas cautioned against individuals pretending to represent religious communities while fueling discord.

The Iftar Mahfil was attended by key BNP figures, including Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, along with religious leaders such as Maulana Kazi Abu and Mufti Mohiuddin. The event underscored BNP’s engagement with religious communities during Ramadan.

This call for global unity in observing Islamic rituals reflects broader discussions within the Muslim world about aligning traditional practices with modern scientific tools like astronomical calculations. However, differences in moon-sighting methods remain a challenge for achieving consensus globally.
