The Bangladesh Bank released the latest remittance data on Sunday.

Data shows Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever monthly remittance inflow of $2.638 billion in December last year. And within just a month after, it touched the highest ever.

The second-highest inflow of $2.598 billion was recorded in July 2020, while the third-highest was $2.54 billion in June 2024.

The central bank reports that the overall amount of remittance inflow during the July–February period of the current FY25 was $18.49 billion, which represented a 23.8% growth over the same time in the previous fiscal year.

Central bank data analysis showed that during the July-February period of FY24, Bangladesh received $14.94 billion in remittances.

On the other hand, the surge in February was 25% higher than the amount received in the same month last year, which was $2.16 billion.

According to Bangladesh Bank, in July $1.913 billion, August $2.224 billion, September $2.404 billion, October $2.395 billion, November $2.199 billion, December $2.638 billion, and January $2.185 billion remittance came through banking channels.

Regarding this rise, experts attributed this to the month of Ramadan, a period when remittance inflows typically rise as expatriates send more money to support their families.

They also hint that the upcoming Eid remittance flow will continue in March as well.

However, it is a trend that remittances tend to increase during Ramadan and the two Eid festivals.
