RAJSHAHI, Sept 12, V7N — Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has said the persons with disabilities deserve equal rights in family and the society as well.
All the government and non-government organisations concerned should come forward and work together to ensure the legitimate rights of the challenged people.
The RCC Administrator said this while addressing a workshop as the chief guest held under the theme "Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities: The Core Commitment to Building an Equitable Bangladesh" here today.
The workshop was held in the conference room of a restaurant in the city, organised by the National Council of Women with Disabilities and supported by Sightsavers and the Equality Bangladesh Campaign.
Riton said, "Persons with disabilities are members of our family. They also have rightful rights in all matters. Their rights must be firmly established. We are working towards that goal."
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working hard to move the country forward. He has arranged a loan of Taka 10,000 crore for small entrepreneurs to create employment. He is working to improve people's standard of living, he said, adding, "We also want to stand by you."
The meeting was presided over by President of the National Council of Women with Disabilities Nasima Akter.
The welcome address was given by Sajeda Akter, general secretary of the National Council of Women with Disabilities, and Asaduzzaman Chowdhury Russell, president of the Rajanigandha Disability Development Organisation.
The overall information and presentation of the workshop was delivered by Marufa Yasmin Monika, a member of the National Council of Women with Disabilities.
Members of various disability organisations participated in the workshop.
