Dhaka, Mar 02 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has called for visible initiatives to be taken for the upcoming general elections by December, warning that delays in the process will lead to increased conspiracies. He made these comments at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club on Sunday (March 2).
Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that BNP has long been advocating for electoral reforms, claiming that their proposal is not much different from the government's commission. He expressed concerns that various strategies are being employed to prolong the democratic process, stressing the need for reforms aimed at ensuring fair and free elections.
He further criticized the Awami League leadership, particularly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the party's leaders, for not showing remorse for the genocides that took place in the country’s history. Ahmed argued that their statements suggest the blame is being placed on those who participated in the 1975 coup, rather than addressing the atrocities that followed.
Additionally, Salahuddin Ahmed raised concerns about the high prices of daily necessities. He warned that if basic goods are not made affordable for the people, the government's positive actions could be overshadowed by public dissatisfaction. He urged the formation of an interim government to address these issues and ensure that the common people’s needs are prioritized.
