Mymensingh, Jan 27 (V7N) — BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday accused Jamaat-e-Islami of speaking against the BNP in the “language of a runaway dictatorship,” questioning the party’s credibility over its repeated allegations of corruption against past BNP governments.
Addressing an election rally at the Mymensingh District Circuit House ground, Tarique Rahman said Jamaat leaders frequently criticize the BNP for corruption, despite the fact that two Jamaat members served as ministers in the BNP-led government from 2001 to 2006.
“If the BNP government was a champion of corruption, why didn’t they resign at that time?” he asked. “They didn’t, because they knew that Begum Khaleda Zia never compromised on corruption and took initiatives to reduce it.”
The BNP chairman alleged that many political parties focus only on criticizing others at public meetings, adding that such politics does not contribute to national development.
“Except for BNP, no one has a clear plan for the country,” he claimed.
Calling on voters to participate actively in the February 12 national elections, Tarique Rahman urged people to remain vigilant during the voting process.
“We must understand the vote count properly and guard so that no one can loot the votes,” he said.
Emphasizing unity, he stated,
“If we remain united, Bangladesh will move forward. The rule of the people can be established. Bangladesh will be made the Bangladesh of the people—the Bangladesh we desire.”
At the rally, Tarique Rahman also outlined several BNP election pledges, including the introduction of family cards, health cards, farmer cards, and plans to establish employment agencies if the party comes to power.
