Dhaka, Feb 14 (V7N) — The head of the European Union election observation team, Evers Ijabs, has described the 13th National Parliament elections in Bangladesh as the most peaceful and competitive since 2008.

Speaking at a post-election press conference on Saturday (February 14) morning, Ijabs emphasized that the European Union does not support any form of violence, whether physical or virtual, during the electoral process.

He noted that social media posed significant risks during the election but praised the mainstream media for maintaining balanced coverage between candidates.

Ijabs added that the election was acceptable in terms of implementing the rights of the people of Bangladesh and could represent a breakthrough for democracy in the country. He also commended all political parties for encouraging their supporters to refrain from violence during the post-election period, calling this a positive development.

The EU observation team’s comments come amid reports of post-election tensions in some areas, highlighting the importance of restraint and adherence to democratic principles.
