Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — Despite lodging complaints over alleged electoral irregularities, the elected members of the 11-party alliance, led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, will participate in the upcoming oath-taking ceremony. At the same time, the alliance has planned protest meetings and processions across the streets, according to Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Complaints Filed with Election Commission
On Monday afternoon, the 11-party alliance submitted a formal complaint to the Bangladesh Election Commission, citing irregularities in vote counting, declaration of results, and other electoral processes. The alliance requested a recount in 32 constituencies.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hamidur Rahman said the alliance will pursue legal action if the EC does not address the complaints. He raised concerns about unusually low voter turnout, creation of fear during the elections, and irregularities in result sheets, including overwriting and missing agent signatures in several constituencies. In Dhaka-6 constituencies, for instance, some results were reportedly recorded in pencil.
Allegations of Disruptions
The Jamaat leader said that in some polling centers, agents were forced out during counting, while others were deactivated. Allegations of threats when filing complaints were also reported. These disruptions, he claimed, affected the integrity of the vote-counting process and could have impacted the final results.
Planned Protests
In response, the 11-party alliance plans to hold protest meetings and street processions starting tomorrow, condemning the incidents of violence and electoral irregularities in various areas.
Hamidur Rahman stressed that while alliance members will take their oaths in parliament, they will continue to advocate for justice and transparency on the streets, signaling a dual approach of parliamentary participation and public protest.
