Nov 17, (V7N) - Iga Swiatek, the world number two, delivered a stellar performance to propel Poland into their first Billie Jean King Cup semi-final on Saturday with a 2-1 comeback victory over the Czech Republic. Swiatek teamed up with Katarzyna Kawa in the decisive doubles, defeating Marie Bouzkova and Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 6-4.

The Czechs initially led the quarter-final when Bouzkova beat Magdalena Frech 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Swiatek, however, leveled the tie with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 7-5 win over Linda Noskova before securing victory in the doubles.

Poland will face 2023 runners-up Italy in Monday's semi-finals.

Italy Edge Past Japan
Italy overcame Japan 2-1 in a dramatic quarter-final, led by Jasmine Paolini, who secured victories in both singles and doubles.

After Ena Shibahara defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening singles, Paolini equalized with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Moyuka Uchijima. She then paired with Sara Errani to clinch the deciding doubles, beating Shuko Aoyama and Eri Hozumi 6-3, 6-4.

"It wasn't easy... but I'm happy with singles and of course with doubles," said Paolini, reflecting on her breakthrough season.
