LONDON, Dec 31, (V7N) - Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been slapped with a two-match suspension and an £80,000 ($100,000) fine following an altercation with Ipswich Town staff after Wolves’ crushing 2-1 Premier League loss on December 14 at Molineux.

The Brazilian forward was caught in a heated exchange, allegedly elbowing a member of Ipswich's security team and snatching his glasses in the aftermath of Jack Taylor's dramatic stoppage-time winner. The fiery encounter, coupled with teammate Rayan Ait-Nouri's red card, underscored a disastrous evening for Wolves.

Cunha, who has been a pivotal figure for Wolves this season with an impressive tally of 10 goals in 19 league games, admitted to the charges leveled by the Football Association (FA). An independent commission issued the ban and financial penalty, with written reasons for the decision expected soon.

The suspension means Cunha will miss Wolves' critical Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday and the FA Cup third-round tie against Bristol City. His absence is a significant setback for a team teetering just above the relegation zone.

Adding to Wolves’ woes, the loss to relegation rivals Ipswich spelled the end for manager Gary O’Neil, who was dismissed shortly after the match. The club has since appointed Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira in a bid to steer them out of trouble.
