Jan 15 (V7N) -Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed uncertainty about head coach Mike McCarthy's future following the team's regular-season finale. While Jones praised McCarthy, saying he’s "one of the best coaches" and that his opinion of him hasn't diminished, he stopped short of committing to retaining him for the 2025 season. McCarthy, 61, voiced his desire to return despite the ambiguity.
If McCarthy is let go, it would mark the seventh head coaching change in the NFL this season. So far, only the New England Patriots have filled a vacancy, replacing Jerod Mayo with former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
Reports suggest the Cowboys are considering several candidates for the potential opening, including:
Deion Sanders, current head coach at the University of Colorado and a former Cowboys player.
Jason Witten, former Cowboys tight end.
Kellen Moore, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator and former Cowboys offensive coordinator (2019–2022).
However, interviews with Moore and other playoff-bound coaches like Detroit Lions assistants Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson would have to wait until their teams are eliminated.
Despite battling injuries—most notably a season-ending injury to quarterback Dak Prescott and extended absences for star defenders Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence—the Cowboys managed to win four of their last seven games, showcasing resilience down the stretch.
