Tangail, Jan 22 (V7N) - The 2024-25 National Gold Cup Football Tournament for Boys and Girls (Under-17) commenced in Tangail with the slogan "Change the Country, Change the World."
On Wednesday (January 22), Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque inaugurated the five-day tournament at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium, organized by the District Administration and District Sports Office under the initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in collaboration with the District Sports Association.
The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Abdullah Al Mamun and attended by District Police Superintendent Md. Mizanur Rahman, District Football Federation President Ali Imam Tapan, Additional Police Superintendent (Sadar) Sohel Rana, and Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Tanvir Ahmed as special guests.

Boys (Under-17) Category:
Delduar Upazila defeated Kalihati Upazila (2-0).
Tangail Municipality Football Team defeated Ghatail Upazila (1-0), with Kaiser scoring the winning goal.
Tangail Sadar Upazila defeated Dhanbari Upazila (1-0), with Sumon scoring the decisive goal.
Girls (Under-17) Category:
Delduar Upazila defeated Kalihati Upazila (3-1). Ilma, Choya, and Soma scored for Delduar, while Choya Akhtar scored for Kalihati.
Ghatail Upazila defeated Tangail Municipality (1-0).
Dhanbari Upazila defeated Tangail Sadar Upazila (3-1) to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Both matches are scheduled for January 23 (Thursday).
The tournament features under-17 footballers from 12 upazilas of Tangail district. District Sports Officer Md. Afaz Uddin managed the overall coordination, with the assistance of referees and officials, including Anisur Rahman Alo, Harun Or Rashid, Masud Bhuiyan, and others.
This initiative continues to showcase young football talent and foster sportsmanship across the region.
