DHAKA, Jan 27 (V7N) – Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed of Durbar Rajshahi has broken Shakib Al Hasan's long-standing record for the most wickets in a single Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season. Taskin achieved the milestone during his team’s thrilling 2-run victory over Rangpur Riders at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Taskin’s figures of 2-25 in the match brought his wicket tally to 24 in just 11 matches, surpassing Shakib’s 2018-19 record of 23 wickets in 15 matches for Dhaka Dynamites.

The Record-Breaking Performance

Taskin equaled Shakib's record by dismissing Steven Taylor in the first over of the match. Later, he claimed his 24th wicket by trapping Rakibul Hasan leg-before in his final over, cementing his place in BPL history.

The right-arm pacer has been in stellar form throughout the tournament, even as his team has struggled for consistency.

A Season to Remember

Taskin’s exceptional performance this season includes a career-best 7-19 against Dhaka Capital, a spell that is not only the best in BPL history but also the third-best bowling figures in recognized T20 cricket. Only two bowlers have previously claimed seven-wicket hauls in T20 cricket, making Taskin the third to achieve this rare feat.

Taskin’s Rise in the BPL

This isn’t the first time Taskin has come close to creating history. In the 2018-19 season, while playing for Sylhet Sixers, he claimed 22 wickets in 12 matches but fell just short of Shakib’s record.

With his latest achievement, Taskin has solidified his reputation as one of the most lethal bowlers in the BPL and a key player for Durbar Rajshahi.

The 2025 BPL continues to showcase thrilling individual performances, with Taskin’s record-breaking season being one of the tournament's standout highlights.
