Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N): Bangladesh reported eight new dengue-related deaths in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, marking the highest single-day death toll from the disease in 2024.
During the same period, 1,221 more people were admitted to hospitals with dengue, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the eight fatalities, five were from Dhaka South City Corporation, one from Dhaka North City Corporation, and one each from Barishal and Khulna divisions.
In total, 206 patients were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 228 were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation. Across the country, 830 patients are currently receiving treatment for dengue.
With these new deaths, the total number of dengue fatalities in Bangladesh this year has risen to 158, while the number of reported cases since January 1, 2024, stands at 29,786.
In comparison, 2023 was the deadliest year for dengue in the country, with 1,705 deaths. The DGHS recorded 321,179 cases of dengue and 318,749 recoveries last year.
