DIMA HASAO, Assam, Jan 7, (V7N) Authorities in India's northeastern Assam state are working tirelessly to rescue nine miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in the Dima Hasao district. As of Tuesday morning, three miners were feared dead, and their bodies have been spotted by rescue teams but have yet to be recovered.

The miners have been trapped since Monday after the mine flooded due to an internal water channel rupture.

Three bodies have been located, but recovery efforts are still underway.

Rescue Operations: Army teams, including divers, helicopters, and engineers, were deployed to assist in the operation. National and state disaster relief forces are also part of the rescue mission.

Flooding Source: The flooding occurred after miners possibly struck an internal water channel, causing a significant influx of water into the mine.

Rescue Teams: Emergency crews, including army personnel, have been working around the clock to access the trapped miners, using cranes, ropes, and other equipment, as shown in photographs shared by the army.

Coal mine disasters are unfortunately common in India's northeastern region, particularly in Assam and Meghalaya.

In 2019, a similar tragedy in neighboring Meghalaya resulted in the deaths of at least 15 miners after a river flooded an illegal mine.

As the rescue operation continues, officials are focusing on safely retrieving the trapped miners while the bodies of the deceased are yet to be recovered from the mine.
