Al-Fasher, Apr 13 (V7N) – The Rebel Rapid Support Force (RSF) has launched a series of fierce attacks over the past two days on the Zamzam and Abu Shoru refugee camps near Al-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur. At least 100 civilians have been killed in the attacks, including 20 children and nine aid workers, according to reports from Al Jazeera.
The UN humanitarian coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta Salami, condemned the assault, stating that the attacks were coordinated and deliberately targeted the already famine-stricken civilians and aid workers. She warned that the escalating violence could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, with over 500,000 people at risk due to the ongoing conflict.
Among the victims were Dr. Mahmoud Babaker Idris, a doctor at Zamzam Camp Hospital, and Adam Babaker Abdullah, the regional head of Relief International. Seven other colleagues, including nurses, health workers, and logistics staff, were also killed during the attacks. These fatalities highlight the growing danger faced by humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
The UN Security Council is expected to hold an emergency meeting in response to the recent violence, as international attention grows regarding the deadly attacks. Human rights organizations are reportedly preparing to file a case against the RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo at the International Criminal Tribunal for crimes against humanity.
The situation in Sudan remains tense, with humanitarian efforts increasingly jeopardized by ongoing violence in the region.
