Ottawa, Apr 29 (V7N)- The Liberal Party, led by current Prime Minister Mark Carney, is on course to win Canada’s federal election, according to projections by local media cited by CNN. Forecasts by both CTV and CBC News suggest the Liberals are likely to secure enough seats to form the next government.

Vote counting is still underway following Monday’s election, and it remains uncertain whether the Liberals will secure an outright majority. A party needs 172 seats in the House of Commons to form a majority government.

An Ipsos poll released on Sunday showed the Liberal Party ahead with 42% public support, compared to 38% for the Conservative Party.

The election took place against a backdrop of increasing tensions with the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump has issued repeated threats of imposing tariffs and even hinted at the annexation of Canada, remarks that sparked strong political responses.

Mark Carney, known for his firm stance against Trump’s rhetoric, has positioned himself as a leader capable of defending Canada’s sovereignty. If the results hold, Canada appears set to elect a government that promises a strong response to American pressure.
