The Trinamool Congress has lodged a formal complaint against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging a violation of the election code of conduct as the Lok Sabha election process kicks off. Rajya Sabha member Saket Gokhel submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission on Monday, as reported by Hindustan Times.

According to the complaint, Prime Minister Modi participated in an election rally in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, March 17, traveling in an air force helicopter, which is deemed a clear violation of the Election Code of Conduct.

In the letter addressed to the Election Commission, Saket Gokhel highlighted the presence of former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), at the public meeting alongside the Prime Minister. The recent alliance between Naidu's party and the BJP-led NDA coalition adds further scrutiny to the alleged breach.

The Election Code of Conduct, announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Saturday, March 16, mandates strict adherence during the electoral process. Any violation of the code is subject to strict action, as emphasized by the CEC during the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule.

The accusation against Prime Minister Modi comes amidst the commencement of the Lok Sabha election process, setting the stage for a contentious political battle in India. As the Election Commission evaluates the complaint, attention remains focused on ensuring the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.
